This was succeeded by the establishment of the Elliot Lake store in 1974 and the premier Great Northern Road store in 1986.
The foundation of Soo Mill & Lumber Company Ltd. can be traced back to 1915 when it was established by Fremlin Hollingsworth. Having been an integral part of the community for numerous decades, it remains under the ownership of Fremlin's descendants even today. The enduring commitment of the Hollingsworth family has been instrumental in shaping the Algoma region, and they wear their Sault Ste. Marie heritage with pride.

On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, Algoma University honoured the Hollingsworth Family, Founders of Soo Mill, for their continued charitable work and dedication to Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding areas. For over 100 years the Hollingsworth Family had volunteered and donated either through Soo Mill or individually to many local charities and they continue to do so.
